History of Botswana
Did You Know?
Botswana is home to the Makgadikgadi salt pans. This area was formerly Lake Makgadikgadi, which dried up thousands of years ago. Mostly undisturbed by civilization due to the inhabitable nature, the salt pans feature seasonal growth of grass as well as animals and birds. In her music video for "Wildest Dreams", Taylor Swift reportedly filmed a portion in the salt pans.

Botswana, Zambia, Namibia, and Zimbabwe meet at what is known as a quadripoint. This is the point at which four countries meet. In fact, the border between Botswana and Zambia is the shortest border in the world, measuring at just 150 meters! This is the only current quadripoint in the world. During a brief period in the 1960-1961, the borders of Cameroon, Chad, Nigeria and the United Kingdom created a quadripoint.
